Yes, cover songs can be included in YouTube’s Content ID system only if you have secured the proper rights.
How It Works
If you opt into eMastered’s Social Media Monetization release extra, your track can be submitted to YouTube Content ID for tracking and monetization.
However, for cover songs:
- You must have a valid mechanical license for the composition
- You are responsible for obtaining this license yourself (e.g., via Songfile or Easy Song Licensing)
- You must upload proof of rights during the distribution process
Important
- eMastered does not acquire or manage licenses for cover songs
- Submitting a cover to Content ID without proper rights may result in:
- Claims being rejected
- Revenue being withheld
- Takedowns or disputes from rights holders
Summary
As long as you have the correct license and opt into Social Media Monetization, your cover song can be eligible for YouTube Content ID—but rights compliance is entirely your responsibility.
