Can I Reuse a Cover Song on an Album After Uploading it as a Single?

If you release a cover song as a single and later want to include it on an album, that’s totally fine—but you’ll need to secure a separate mechanical license for each release.

How It Works

Each time you upload a cover song to eMastered—whether as a single or as part of an album—you must:

  • Select “Another artist wrote it (it's a cover song)”
  • Upload proof of your mechanical license for that specific release

Important

  • eMastered does not provide or manage cover licenses
  • You are responsible for obtaining a valid license (e.g., via Songfile or Easy Song Licensing)
  • There is no blanket license that covers multiple releases

Why This Matters

Mechanical licenses are issued per release. Even if it’s the same recording, each new distribution (single, album, etc.) requires its own license to ensure proper royalty reporting and payment to the original songwriter.

Failure to provide a valid license for each upload may result in your release being rejected or taken down.
