My Release Needs More Information, How Do I Submit Proof of Rights?

When we review a release for distribution, it gets run through an audio fingerprinting check (basically using a tool similar to Shazam).

These fingerprint checks sometimes find matches between elements of your release and audio that already appear on streaming platforms. Frequently, this means it identified a sample in the recording that was already used on other releases.

This means your submission is likely to be rejected by stores unless we can verify that you have the necessary proof of rights to distribute all included material (for example: instrumentals, samples, loops, beats, or any third-party audio).

What counts as “Proof of Rights?"

Proof of rights is typically a license agreement or written permission from the original rights holder that shows you’re authorized to use and distribute the material.

It needs to be A PDF copy of your license agreement or written authorization that includes:

1).   The name of the licensor (rights holder) and the licensee (you and/or your label)

2).  The title of the work being licensed (so it’s clear what the permission covers)

3).   The term/duration of the agreement (e.g., perpetual, 1 year, etc.).

4).   Confirmation that the license covers distribution rights including: digital sales / permanent downloads and monetized streaming.
